Millions of microorganisms inhabited in a human body live in a dynamic and complex ecosystem. Number of metabolites produced by them affect the health of host by various ways. The composition of gut microbiota is individualized to host. Dietary patterns and lifestyle of host directly affect the composition. Accordingly, changes in food habits of specific place or socio-economic groups are linked to prevalence of specific health related problem. Further, various studies have revealed the link of gut microbiota with taste and appetite responses through receptor cells expressed by gut epithelium. A bidirectional relationship is presented between enteric and central nervous system.
