NBCC (INDIA) TO DEVELOP ALL INDIA INSTITUTE OF AYURVEDA, YOGA AND NATUROPATHY WITH 250 BED HOSPITAL IN GOA

NBCC (India) Ltd., a Navratna CPSE under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of AYUSH for the construction of a 250-bed Ayurveda and Naturopathy hospital in Goa. The proposed cost is Rs 267.81 crore. The MoU was signed between Shri Yogesh Sharma, Executive Director, NBCC and Dr. Tanuja Manoj Nesari, Director, All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), Ministry of AYUSH. Hon'ble Minister, Ministry of Ayush, Shri Shripad Yesso Naik had recently laid the foundation stone. The institute will be spread over an area of 50 acres to offer UG, PG and Ph.D. degree to 500 students every year. (Courtesy: Ministry of Ayush)

It is an appressed hairy herb. Leaves are 1-2.5 - 0.5-1 cm, ovate, elliptic or oblong. Flowers are axillary and solitary. Capsules are 0.3-05 cm across and rounded. Seeds are oblong, smooth and dark-brown. The whole plant is used as brain tonic. The decoction of plant is given as blood purifier. Evolvine, an alkaloid of plant is used as stimulant for respiration and blood pressure.

This is 8-10 meters tall tree with grey-green bark covered with raised lenticels. Leaves are simple, opposite, 4-15 x 2.5-5 cm in size, elliptic-ovate in shape with acuminated or rounded apex. Flowers are white to dull-white in colour and in cymes or in axillary fascicles. Drupes are ovoid. Traditionally in Kerala, bark and leaves of this plant are used in joint problems, for wound healing etc.

This is an ornamental plant. The word, 'Thunbergia is given after the name of Swedish botanist Thunberg. The species name, 'mysorensis' is based on the name of the place, Mysore (Karnataka, India). Like other species of Thunbergia, this plant is also used as antibacterial, anthelmintic etc. in folklore. Still researches are needed.

A research conducted at Montana University and published in Nature Communications shows that gut microbes play an important role to combat arsenic toxicity. Scientists from Wellcome Sanger Institute, UK and Institut Pasteur, France have revealed the most likely source of cholera epidemic of Yemen through genome sequencing. A work of scientists from University of Washington published in Environmental Science & Technology exposes the development of new genetically modified houseplant capable of removing the chloroform and benzene from environment. Scientists of Imperial College, London have published his work in Clinical Chemistry linking many of miscarriages with poor quality of man’s sperm.
