Ayurveda has advocated the proper food with great significance for the healthy body and mind. A complete food regime is suggested to balance the dosha, based on seasonal variations and other needed requirements. It means food and digestion are emphasized in relation to therapeutic approaches. Many of these foods viz., curd, buttermilk, fermented rice water etc. (lactic acid bacteria) work for improving the gut microbiome. Recent researches have established the connection between the microbiota with preventive and therapeutic effects. Different studies have indicated  the role of microbiota in absorption of nutrients and minerals along with synthesis of enzymes, vitamins, amino acids etc. Even potential impacts of gut microbiota on immune and neuroendocrine responses are being stu...

Debates to claim certain system of medicine as better or worse than other is harebrained concept as the body does not recognize the system of medicine, but it responds to compounds (drugs) reflected by pharmacological researches. There is no space of claims in medical science. It is totally based on evidences with its sacred aim to serve the humanity with better health.        A holistic approach of wellbeing is in core of Ayurveda while allopathy emphasizes on treatment of symptoms. At molecular level, the interpretation of mode of action of drugs used by both systems reveal similarity, only an expertise interpretation is required. Even, Charak Samhita Vimansthana 8/8 has recommended the rationalities and needed thinking capabilities for teachers.        Recently, curcumin is pres...

A horrendous second wave of COVID-19 have stunned the people, administration and whole healthcare system of India with greater number of unexpected deaths. Records are flying. Lack of communication between senior leaders, scientists and public may be the main cause. Reasons may be thousands. Apart from external factors, good number of internal factors are suggested or claimed by scientists and doctors viz., weakened immunity, high blood pressure, diabetes etc. But, still detailed studies are awaited to find the relationship of various variants of genes related to ACE2 and severity of cases among the COVID-19 patients. Studies on Entrez gene 59272 shows that the protein encoded by this gene is a functional receptor of spike glycoprotein of COVID-19 viruses (HCoV-NL63). Gene related to Inna...

Time demands the fight against the different variants of COVID-19. Antibodies are only observed as solutions by scientists. Vaccines were expected one step ahead in these regards. A new study published in Nature on 8th March revealed the escaping nature of new variants (UK and South Africa) of COVID-19 virus against vaccines of Moderna or Pfizer. Recently generated variant of Brazil is not studied. Mutations in virus may divert the signaling pattern of antibodies generated after vaccination. So, the most important part is breaking the link for spreading the mutations. Still, studies are required to cross the changes in responses of individual physiological bodies against COVID-19 and its variants. Differing responses are related to genes and, genetic impacts are already studied as core fa...

The precarious condition generated after deteriorating climate is alarming. Many of diseases are linked with different types of pollutions. Air pollution is one of dangerous factor connected with different types diseases of respiratory and other systems.Recently, International Journal of Obesity reported in one of articles about association of early exposure to air pollution to obesity in children. In a longitudinal study of Spain including 416,955 children, 34.2% developed obesity. A strong association was observed with exposure to NO2, PM10, and PMcoarse. A more specific study is reported in Nature Scientific Reports displaying the pathological impacts of specific parameters on health. Researchers studied Hispanic group of children (6-8 years) in California exposed to 1 day- 12 month av...

Death is inevitable and it is certain. It becomes powerful gift, once anyone is able to save others’ life by donating organs after death. Manusmriti clearly mentions donations as sacred approach and among donations, donation of own body as infinitely worthwhile. Donation of organs is need of time as many people die due to organ failures or, many of organs face decline in quality after death before transplantation. The process of transplantation of organs is needed to be very quick after death. Declaration of death becomes important as waiting too long brings decline in quality of organs. Recently on January 28, in issue of The New England Journal of Medicine, Dhanani et al. collected data of 631 patients from 20 intensive care units from three countries for an observational study to ascer...

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) considers prediabetes as serious condition. It is a state of intermediate hyperglycemia where sugar level is higher than normal, but not enough high to diagnose as type 2 diabetes. Recently, a research work published in Nature Medicine identifies six sub-phenotypes for prediabetes through a cohort study. The 25 years long study included 7,000 participants from Germany and UK. The study was led by Professor Hans-Urlich Haring. The study used partitioning of variables using glucose tolerance tests, MRI-measured body fat distribution, liver fat content and genetic risk. Six different clusters of sub-phenotypes were categorized as cluster 1 to 6. Three of these clusters i.e., 1,2 and 4 are suggested to be with low risk diabetes. Participants of...

A recent study published online on 9th December in Nature Communications by Peckham et al. (2020) shows gender based development of severity of COVID-19 subjected to ITU (intensive therapy unit). The study is based on meta-analysis of reports from 47 countries including 3,111,714 cases. However, study considers the equivalent risks of infection in both males and females, still it shows higher odds for males. The requirement of ITU and death is respectively observed 2.84 times higher and 1.39 times higher in males. Study highlights the differences between male and females for both innate and adaptive immune system. Earlier findings from number of animals including mammals have revealed the genetic and hormonal guidance behind the better immunity in females than male. Higher expression of T...

Indian philosophy is based on positive thinking. Rigveda refers to positive thinking in core to improve capabilities. It further emphasizes that the person involved in good deeds experience divine happiness. Positivity in thought is directly connected to brain. Recently a study published in Psychological Science highlights the importance of positive affects with less memory decline in old ages. Positive affect is related to subjectivity experiences of joy, interest and alertness.                       Positive affect is linked to decrease in cortisol level and increase in serotonin level and dopamine level. Researches done on human and animals reveal the link of high cortisol with decreased gray matter in all brain regions. It is directly connected to neurodegeneration....

The genomic structure of coronavirus is non-segmented positive strand RNA (+ssRNA) with nucleocapsid. It has single stranded genomes. It has four main structural proteins as spike glycoprotein, envelop glycoprotein, membrane glycoprotein and nucleocapsid protein. Several other accessory proteins are also present. Spike glycoprotein facilitates binding to host cells by attraction of angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) in lower respiratory tract in synergy with TMPRSS2 (transmembrane serine protease 2). The furin cleavage site of virus is essential for breakdown of Spike glycoprotein and it determines the entry of virus in host cells. The nucleocapsid protein is localized in endoplasmic reticulum. It is bound to nucleic acid material of the virus. It is responsible for viral genome and r...
